The Importance of Professional Foot Care Maintenance: A Clinical Approach
At RNscrub Foot Care, we provide specialized, nurse-led foot care designed to maintain skin integrity and nail health for individuals with complex needs, including those living with diabetes, circulatory challenges, or mobility limitations. Our services bridge the gap between a traditional salon and a surgical podiatry office.
1. Clinical Standards of Care
Unlike a standard pedicure, our services are performed by licensed nursing professionals. We adhere to strict infection control protocols and use single-use or sterilized, clinical-grade instruments. Our focus is on the preventative maintenance of the feet to reduce the risk of secondary complications.
2. Our Scope of Service
Our nursing team provides "Routine Foot Care" as defined by professional nursing standards. This includes:
Nail Debridement: Thinning and trimming of thickened (hypertrophic) nails to improve comfort.
Callus & Corn Management: Mechanical reduction of non-vascularized skin build-up to prevent pressure sores.
Skin Integrity Monitoring: Observation of the feet for signs of breakdown, redness, or potential ulceration.
Education: Providing evidence-based information on hygiene and over-the-counter preventative products.
3. Why a Nurse-Led Model?
Nurses are trained to recognize the "at-risk" foot. While we do not provide a medical diagnosis, our assessments allow us to identify changes in circulation or sensation (such as peripheral neuropathy symptoms) that may require advanced medical intervention.
4. Professional Referrals
We prioritize patient safety above all else. If our assessment reveals a condition outside our nursing scope of practice—such as a deep-tissue infection, an active ulcer, or a requirement for surgical intervention—we will provide a recommendation for a formal evaluation by a Podiatrist (DPM) or your Primary Care Physician (PCP).
